CONEXION is an extension of our programs CAPTA and ENLACES consisting of activities that foster a sense of community between the women of the different CAPTA courses and between the parents of ENLACES kids.

The purpose is to offer a neutral and welcoming environment where they can meet and share experiences, and it is intended to foster a sense of community among the beneficiaries of our programs providing social, cultural, educational and recreational activities.

Every last Saturday of the month, CONEXION takes place at Fundacion Calicanto.  In the mornings, parents of the children enrolled in the ENLACES program get together.  Our social worker visits the homes of our beneficiaries and sets up speeches, short workshops and interactive games, which aim to improve the conditions for the children and their families in their homes.  These workshops include topics such as alcohol consumption, tips on parenting and relationship advice.  We believe it is not enough to only provide a safe and fun environment for the children of our neighborhoods of interest but also address their parents that are part of this community and usually are as needed as their children of orientation and support.

In the afternoon, women who have graduated from the CAPTA course meet.  The aim of these meetings is to reinforce the importance for them to continue with the change they experienced during and after the course, so they can keep moving forward and not fall back.  Leaded by our social worker, the talks, activities and interactive dynamics are focused in personal development, customer service and basic entrepreneurship attitudes. In addition, CAPTA graduates have the opportunity to learn English for free every Tuesday evening as part of CONEXION.  Many employers today require at least basic knowledge of English and the women enjoy he weekly meetings taught entirely by volunteers that are a change to their daily routine. The Club will serve as a bridge for the Foundation to remain connected to CAPTA graduates and serve as a continued resource for learning and growth.
The fact that we are neighbors doesn’t mean that we constitute a community:  We aim to promote the positive relationships that build a community among all people that attend our programs.
The sense of community is a feeling members have of belonging, a felling that members matter to one another and the group, and a shared faith that members needs will be met through their commitment to be together.
